In this video I demonstrate how to build build a reclaimed scaffold board table and prevent cupping over time. I use several techniques some are alternating.

Edge the boards. Edge the boards where they are to be jointed. For the joins we used a biscuit jointer to create a stronger join. Biscuit joint the boards in three places. Using a straight edge of some kind (we used a spare scaffold board) line up the planks with the long edges together. Hammer the threaded rod into the scaffold board to the half way point. Bring the next board up in position and tap with a hammer to leave indentations which show you where to drill the next board. Drill out the next board. Hammer the boards together using a heavy hammer, using a scrap piece of wood to spread the load and prevent hammer marks.

Step 7. Filling and sanding. A reclaimed wood scaffold board table will be more functional when the surface is smooth and flat. By filling the gaps, dents and cuts with a wood filler we can make the surface smooth, which makes it easier to clean and maintain. Once dry you can now remove the clamps.
